This morning, I had a short conversation with Mary Magdalene, asking her some questions that have been on my heart. These questions were related to specific struggles I’ve had as an adult that are directly connected to my suffering as a child.
A Caveat
Throughout the years, I’ve had many questions surrounding suffering, as I’m sure everyone does. One conclusion I’ve come to is that the different meanings I give to my suffering is personal, and the different meanings (or non-meanings) others give to their suffering is personal to them. Let each person decide for themselves the meaning of their own suffering, without pushing that meaning on someone else.
Mary Magdalene knows me. She has seen my suffering both past and present, knows my ongoing struggles that are connected to my past suffering, and understands where I’m currently at in my life and what answers are most helpful to me at this point. But the answers she would give to you may be different than what she has given me, best suited for where you are in your life, and specific to you and to what you need.
My point is this: you may or may not relate to the answers I was given, but if there is any good you can glean from this conversation I had with Mary, I pray you receive it with joy.
Conversation with Mary Magdalene
Me: Why is there so much suffering in this world? Why do we suffer?
MM: Suffering is part of being human. Everyone suffers who is human.
Me: Then why be born if there’s so much suffering? What is the point of being born?
MM: To be human. You cannot be human unless you are born.
Me: But why do I continue to suffer?
MM: Because you are not letting go of your suffering.
Me: How do I let go of my suffering?
MM: By grabbing hold of something else.
Me: What do I grab hold of?
MM: Grab hold of your crown. We keep giving it to you, but you keep putting it back down. Your crown is a result of your suffering. It comes about through your suffering. Grab hold of your crown.
(Note: Mary Magdalene is referring to the several times that my Guides – she and Jesus and Balthazar – have presented me with a crown and placed it upon my head. This has sometimes been related to a ceremony or ritual that they bring me through.)
From now on the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me in that day; but not only to me, but also to all those loving His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:8)
I exhort the elders among you, a fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory being about to be revealed … And the Chief Shepherd having been revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (1 Peter 5:1,4)
Everyone who competes in the games trains with strict discipline. They do it for a crown that is perishable, but we do it for a crown that is imperishable. (1 Corinthians 9:25)
Blessed is the [one] who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)
Blessed are the poor in the spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.Blessed are those mourning,
for they will be comforted.Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.Blessed are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness,
for they will be filled.Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy.Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.Blessed are those having been persecuted on account of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.Blessed are you when they shall insult you and shall persecute you, and lying shall say all kinds of evil against you on account of Me. Rejoice and exult, because great is your reward in the heavens; for thus they persecuted the prophets before you. (Matthew 5:3-12)
