When we are struggling with self-worth and feeling defeated, it’s always helpful to know or remind ourselves what God, our Creator, thinks of us, the Created.
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30)
I’m discouraged. I can’t seem to do anything right or worthwhile.
My grace covers you and My strength is perfect and complete, available for you. Let Me help you. (Romans 8:26, 2 Corinthians 12:9)
I don’t know how to let You help me. What’s the point of even trying anymore?
Everything you are going through, all the hardships you are suffering that are out of your control, and even the consequences you are suffering because of your mistakes or poor judgement, is creating within you a character worth more than gold. I am working everything out for your good. Just let Me do that work within you. (Romans 5:3-5; 8:28, James 1:2-4, 1 Peter 1:6-7)
“But I’m always doing the wrong things. I feel completely trapped by my addictions and everything I’m doing wrong.” (James 1:14-15)
“You no longer need to satisfy the desires you have for those things that are against My perfect plan for you. You are led by Me now, and you are no longer held captive by the cycle of sin. You’ve been set free and have been given a new life, so walk in Unity with Me. Let me show you how.” (Galatians 5:16-18, 25)
“But I keep doing the wrong thing anyway! I want to do what is good, but I don’t know how! Even when I try, it all seems to fall apart. I’m an awful person! Maybe I’m just getting what I deserve! (Romans 7:18, 24)
“Don’t worry so much! Relax in My presence! I don’t condemn you, so why are you condemning yourself for every mistake you make, even those that you continually repeat? You are in Christ Jesus, and My law, the law of the Spirit who gives you life, has set you free even from those patterns that are bringing harm to you. Don’t continue to beat yourself up over the past, even if the past was 20 seconds ago. That isn’t doing you any good. Instead, start where you are now, in this very moment, and let Me do the work within you.” (1 John 3:20, Romans 8:1-2, Philippians 3:13)
“How can I relax! I can’t just not worry! I’m screwing my life up, and I can’t seem to make anything right!
You are my child, My special creation made in My very image, and I will keep you and protect you. This is My promise. I will lead you down the path I have placed before you, so follow Me. (Ephesians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, John 16:13)
But I can’t trust myself to hear Your voice leading me because my heart is wicked! How can I trust You if I can’t even trust my own heart? It’s totally hopeless!” (Jeremiah 17:9)
“You are never out of My reach for I am the Creator of all and I dwell within you, making all things new. I’ve given you a new spirit, one that knows my voice well, and I’ve removed your heart of stone that couldn’t hear My voice, and given you a new heart, a heart that is sensitive to Me. You are found within Christ, and Christ is within you, and you have been made new. The old you is no more, and the new you is here to stay. (Ezekiel 36:25-27, Acts 17:27-28, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20, Colossians 1:27, Revelation 21:5)
So why don’t I feel it? What do I have to do to be a better person?
“Stop focusing on yourself and on your problems and mistakes. Focus on Me. Allow Me to work within you. I Am the Solution. Simply receive of Me and I’ll do the rest, because I always finish what I start.” (Philippians 1:6)
