Refiner’s Fire

A little more than a year ago, I was unexpectedly given a vision of “Hell,” and in many ways, it wasn’t what I’d expected. Certain aspects, yes, but there were several things that surprised me.

I’ve been a little hesitant to write about this, because so many visions of Hell that people have claimed to have had are really in many ways just projections of their own fears or convoluted beliefs about God’s nature, and to claim to have a vision of Hell feels to me to be a bit sensationalized or overly dramatic, which is a turn-off in my opinion. But as skeptical of a mystic as I am (an odd combination to be sure, but it’s actually a good balance to have), I think it’s the right time to share about what I was shown.

On January 2nd, 2024, I wrote some of the following in my journal:

Odd happenings last night. I was talking to Jesus first, and I know that I’ve asked him before to forgive me for kicking him away a few years ago, but I asked again. And of course he forgives me, he does. In a way, they say, there’s nothing to forgive, because it was something I needed to go through, so there’s nothing to forgive. I did nothing wrong, and they feel no offense. But in another sense, I feel badly over it. So, I guess I have to get over the bad feelings.

Anyway, so I was talking to Jesus, and then Lady Mary Magdalene was there, and I felt Love radiating from both of them. Then I asked Jesus about the Angels that I felt were with me from the day before. I know there are always Angels, but these are different. There are three of them and they were—well, they were almost “escorting ” me yesterday when I went to the Prayer Temple (the building in the spirit where we gather and pray; I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be called, but Prayer Temple seems appropriate). So I asked Jesus if it was okay to talk to the Angels, and he said yes, so I turned around, said hello, and then I apologized to them for kicking them out before, too, and for speaking against them. They didn’t say much to me, but one of them hugged me, and I felt their Love and acceptance. I asked them their names, but I couldn’t hear what they said.

Then Balthazar was there, too, and he told me, “I want you to meet my friends.” I’m not sure of who all they were because I felt a little too overwhelmed to ask, but I talked to one of them, the one who was closest to us—an old Asian-looking man—and I asked his forgiveness, too, for talking against them and saying that they are evil and for encouraging people to not talk to them or ask for their help. He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled and forgave me.

Then something weird happened. I think it was Balthazar who told me to ask the Angels my question. Or maybe it was the old Master. I can’t remember exactly. But anyway, I couldn’t think of any other question to ask except for healing, so I turned to the Angels and asked if I could have more healing, and in response, the “lead” Angel (I’m not sure how to word it, but it seemed like he is the one is “in charge,” in a sense, and the other two are under his command, although maybe that’s a false perception), he pulled out a flaming sword and plunged it into my abdomen, and my entire body (etheric body, whatever it’s called) burst into flames. I was shocked, to say the least, and wondered if I was supposed to feel any pain, because I didn’t. I hardly felt anything except a brief and faint burst of energy. Then the Angel cupped his hands together, lifted them above my head, and made as if he were pouring something over me, like water, and I felt a cool energy go through me, and the flame turned white and then quickly went out.

Then I was shown an “In-Between Place,” is what Balthazar and the Others called it. It bothered me to see it at first, because it seemed as if parts of it were a type of Hell. A place of torment, in a way, but not at all like the Christian version of Hell I’d been taught about and had been afraid of my whole life.

I continued journaling, writing down what I saw, as well as my understanding of what I’d been shown and the answers to the questions I asked. I do not believe what I was shown constitutes the totality of what we call “Hell,” and although I don’t presume to believe that I completely comprehended the meaning of everything I saw or everything I was told with 100% accuracy, this is my understanding as best I was able to perceive it. Links for Scripture to study can be found below.

Something to keep in mind as you read: I write with the words that I best understand, but different religious groups may use different terms to describe what is essentially the same thing. Don’t let the differences of language prevent you from missing the message.

Sin and a State of Separation

Sin, as it is usually taught by Christian churches, does not exist. It is not the breaking of a list of rules, laws, or commandments. In fact, sin does not exist outside of oneself, and any sin that does exists, is because we are the ones who created sin from our hearts. (More on this in a moment.)

Simply put, “sin” is a word used to describe a heart that has not been illuminated; a heart that is either unconsciously or willfully ignorant. This ignorance, or lack of illumination, is a result of separation from God, and it also brings about a separation from humankind (individual and universal humanity, including our true Self and the true Self of others), and from the whole of God’s creation, including animals and the physical world.

This state of separation is, on a certain level, a natural, inherent state we are all born into when we assume our physical body, an action which causes us to become aware of a separation from the spirit world and of our full conscious realization of the Divine.

This state of separation is also usually taught from early on: from parents and caregivers, to religious and cultural communities.

But this separation is not evil, nor is it an indication of any deficiency we hold within ourselves. While we can and should engage in those things that help close the gap that this separation seems to cause (because, in truth, there is no separation between ourselves and the Divine; there are only levels of awareness), it is wholly corrected only through the Spirit of Christ.

Works of the Flesh and Evil

What we would describe as “evil” is a manifestation of continued sin—ongoing and willful separation from what is Divine and Sacred; rebellion—worked within the hearts of those who refuse to be illuminated by the Light of Christ. These works of the flesh negatively impact God’s creation as a whole: self, others, animal life, and the earth.

Works of the flesh can also be done out of ignorance, and through unintentional action or words, cause harm, but although they are also worked within the hearts of those who have not yet been illuminated by the Light of Christ, they are not necessarily “evil” in the same sense.

The Light of Christ

The Light of Christ is the illumination by the Spirit of Christ which reveals to us, in our unconscious ignorance or in our willful rebellion, our state of being separated from God and from the whole of creation (sin). It also reveals to us—makes us aware of—the darkness in our hearts where evil is worked, and where evil comes forth, for the purpose of allowing God’s Refining Fire to purify our hearts, and bring healing and reconciliation to God and to God’s whole creation.

Refining Fire

God’s Refining Fire is the element of God which cleanses our soul, purifies our faith, heals us of our suffering, enlightens us (frees us from ignorance; causes us to become aware and awake), consumes our “false self” (our ego; the self we create through life experiences and our perceptions, in contrast to our true Self), and destroys the evil we work within our hearts while on Earth.

The ultimate goal is to rid us of all those things which prevent Unity and reconciliation with the whole of Creation and with the Divine (because we cannot truly have one without the other). This is a process which begins with our life on Earth and will continue to the degree necessary after we pass from the physical into the spiritual.

Separation from or Reconciliation with Humanity

Although a certain degree of reconciliation on Earth is possible, it is not wise nor possible, by human standards, to be humanly reconciled on Earth to those who continuously and unrepentantly work evil. But to be reconciled with humanity on a large scale is to connect with the universal humanity on a level that is not affected by our ego. In others words, to do good even when others do evil, to bless when other curse, to pray for those who abuse us and bring us suffering. This is not on a egoistic human level whereby we excuse, enable, or ignore evil works, or whereby we feel obligated to be in relationships with those who continuously, consciously, and unrepentantly bring harm; but it is recognizing that on a spiritual level, we are all children of God who are in need of salvation from our sinful nature—freedom from our ignorance—that has created a separation. And at the end of our lives on Earth, God will reconcile all through Christ, even those things which were previously impossible to reconcile.

Hell

Hell is one of many places within what I describe as the Womb of God, and is a perfect balance where God’s Judgement and God’s Mercy meet.

The Hell I saw in my vision, could be likened to a birthing place, in a sense, for those who need new life, to be reborn, but who were unable to experience this rebirth during their life on Earth for whatever reason: for example, for those who had maliciously or with calloused neglect caused suffering, yet refused God’s Refining Fire and the Light of Christ while on Earth, as well as for those who had suffered on Earth, yet for whatever reason were unable to receive the whole of God’s Refining Fire and the fullness of the Light of Christ to heal them.

I don’t know the number of people I saw who needed both healing from their own suffering as well as correction for the suffering they had caused others, but aside from the innocent who were in that place for healing (e.g., the very young and those who had been mentally incapable while on Earth due to a variety of reasons), I would imagine nearly everyone needed both to one extent or another. This is my thought that makes sense based upon what I saw and was told, and because of my understanding of the nature of God, Who is Just (fair and true) in all things, but I wasn’t specifically told this because I didn’t think to ask at the time.

The ultimate point of what we call “Hell” in all its forms, is to be a place where God’s Fire can bring correction and balance (not to be confused with punishment), reconciliation, and the Unity of all Creation with God for those who would not or did not know how to access the fullness of God’s Refining Fire while on Earth. Our imbalance and continued separation can be caused by malicious intent, calloused neglect, or purposeful disregard, but also by ignorance, unhealed pain, and unconscious and unintentional actions or words that bring harm.

While I was shown specifically those who were out of balance due to the suffering they’d caused others as well as the suffering they’d endured at the hands of others, the imbalance itself comes from being out of Unity with God, resulting in an imbalance with God’s creation, as well.

Based on what I saw and was told, I believe that this also includes animals as well as our physical world, because all of God’s creation is an expression of God, to one degree or another, and at the point of its creation, was declared to be “good” by God, the Creator (see Genesis 1). But I was not shown or told this specifically.

Ultimately, the different places of Hell are where we can find correction and rebalance that we failed to achieve on Earth for whatever reason. It is a place where we are faced with the Merciful Creator who says to the one who has suffered without cause: “You are My child, precious and loved by Me, and I will not allow those who have brought such pain to you throughout your life to go without my Judgement.”

It is also a place where we are faced with the Vengeful Creator who says to the most heinous person who has worked atrocious, incomprehensible evil without remorse or just consequence: “The pain you have caused to others will not go unavenged, and I will give back to you all the evil you have created in your lifetime, fueling you with the singular desire to reunite with the person I created you to be and to be reconciled with humanity once again. Only then will you also be reconciled with Me, because you are My child, precious and loved by Me.”

God’s Judgement is not without God’s Mercy, and the measuring out of both is always Just.

Demons

In the more tormented places of Hell, I saw demons, but not in the way Christian theology teaches.

Some of the demons are of people’s own making: a manifestation of their darkness as a demon spirit, forcing them to face the suffering they’d caused others. In a sense, it is their conscience that had been seared before, now made alive and making known Truth to the person. For example, a manifestation of their Greed, forcing them to face how their greed had brought suffering to others. Or a manifestation of their Rage, forcing them to face the consequences of their own rage that they had refused to face and conquer when they were alive on Earth.

Other Spirits are there, too, Demons as they are commonly called, who help the person work through their own darkness in order to hasten a repentance. They are spiritual Beings usually considered to be the opposite nature of Angels, but they are not a creation of the darkness of the person’s heart, but a creation of God, an aspect of God made manifest, as are all things, and they work the will of God in their own way. In this case, in “Hell,” in this In-Between Place, the Demons work the will of God by helping the person face their own darkness that they had refused to address while they were alive on Earth. I’m not trying to compare them to innocent little fuzzy bunnies, or something. They are frightening and fierce. But they are not there to eternally punish. Instead, they are there to ensure the refining process is completed, a process that takes as long as it needs to for each person.

This is a little off topic, but it may be important for someone else to make a few connections in their own life: this encounter helped me better understand what my Guides had previously explained to me about the difference between Demons (uppercase “D”) and demons (lower case “d”). Attacks from demons (lower case “d”) I’ve suffered through in my life, as well as visions and other types of encounters, were in many cases other people who were working evil from the darkness of their hearts. In some instances, they were a manifestation of my own psyche, fear in particular; or manifestations of the trauma I had endured and was unable to process. This is common for trauma survivors.

On the other hand, attacks from Demons (upper case “D”), encounters or visions were Messengers of God to teach, to correct, to lead down a path I should have gone down but didn’t want to, or to repel away from a path I was on.

Deliverance from all is through the Spirit, and begins with submission to God.

I know this goes against traditional Christian theology, and maybe against a lot of other religious theology, too, but it is what it is. Sometimes the Spirit sends Angels to guide and teach and protect, and other times, the Spirit sends Demons. And sometimes Angels and Demons work hand-in-hand for the greater good of all.

This doesn’t mean we should submit to or find acceptable or agreeable Demonic/demonic harassment, or oppression/possession for any reason, whether for personal gain or for the punishment of another. Neither does this give us permission or an impetus to seek Demons/demons for their guidance. This is imbalanced and can be incredibly dangerous, leading to deception. On the other hand, seeking the guidance of Angels without being balanced in our approach can also lead to deception, and Angels shouldn’t be used as our weapon of vengeance anymore than Demons/demons should (and I’ve seen and experienced Christians engaging in this dangerous and unwise activity). But the best thing is to seek the Spirit of God for guidance, not Angels, Demons, or even Spirit Guides (see: “Trusting Spirit Guides“). When we learn to fully trust Spirit, we then learn to trust that whatever or whoever comes across our path is being used of God to help guide in some fashion, and everything finds it proper place and balance.

In other words, we should make sure our foundation is built upon solid ground first, then we can build on top of that. But each of us should come to our own understanding about this.

Angels

Angels are there to help, as well. They help bring healing to those who were working through the suffering they had been unable to process on Earth, transferring them to a higher place when they are finished with their healing process. This process takes as long as is necessary, dependent upon the person.

For those who had caused suffering, the Angels also help transfer them to a higher place when they have completed their refining process.

Guidance and Help of Others

I saw humans there, too, including the Guides who are with us now, as well as others.

Some are there in actuality and work in a capacity similar to the Angels, helping to comfort and to bring healing to those who had been unable to completely work through their suffering on Earth, and helping to transition people to a higher place.

Others seem to be there in essence (although perhaps some in actuality, too, but I was not given explanation of this, as I did not think to ask). They are the manifestations of those who had suffered from the works of the previously unrepentant evil-doers. Whether there in essence or in actuality, they work in a way that is similar to the demons who were manifestations of evil works, in that their presence allows the person to fully face who they had harmed and what they had said and had done to cause suffering.

A Place of Suffering and of Rest

There is torment and suffering in some of the places in the “In-Between” place, such as the places where evil-doers face their darkness, but not in the way I was led to believe in Christian churches, and not in all of them.

This suffering caused to others is not speaking of superficial pains that threaten our egos, but of true harm that is done to the person’s soul by another who is working from the darkness worked within their heart. The torment and suffering people experience in Hell comes from recognizing and facing their own wickedness. Their suffering is only as great or as small as the suffering they had caused to others, each one suffering the same intensity of pain and sorrow they had caused, feeling each moment that they had not accounted for and repented of while on Earth. This process of purification lasts only as long as it needs to last until all works of the flesh and darkness are expunged and consumed, and they are ready to be reconciled with God and with the whole of Creation.

But in other spaces, there is no suffering at all, such as in the healing places. For these people, they don’t even call this place Hell, and it seems like a type of Heaven—a resting place; a place to reset, so to speak; a way station; a temporary pause in their journey to give them space to process and to make decisions. For these, they had been illuminated by the Light of Christ, and had, to the best of their ability, not resisted the Fire of God in their lifetime, but for one reason or another, they were unable to completely process through the suffering they had endured and to find healing while on Earth. So here, within the Womb of God, they are purified and made whole, and reconciled to humanity (the universal self and the true Self) and to God. As mentioned before, Angels are there to help them through this process, as well as the presence of certain humans.

One related note:

We all cause offense to others, sometimes unintentionally, whether through ignorance or something else. These acts that cause harm will be accounted for, as well, but for those who are already open and even accustomed to receiving the correction of God within our soul, the illumination and purification of Hell is something we receive with joy, and not with suffering or sorrow, because the desire is to be made whole and to be in Unity with God and the whole of God’s creation. For those who resist God’s correction, however, the process is painful.

Fire

The Fire of God is ever-present and unable to be quenched, and Its existence makes possible purification and cleansing, healing for those who suffered, and a reestablishment of harmony between the person and universal humanity. These things make it possible for all to come back into Unity with the Divine, the Creator, in the way we were always meant to be.

The Fire of God is always present, but it isn’t “eternally burning and torturing people” for their every mistake, great or small, or for their evil deeds or words, the way I was taught in Christian churches. The Fire is not meant for punishment, and it doesn’t hurt in the sense that we know fire to hurt. As stated before, the torment and suffering people experience comes not from the Fire, but from from recognizing and facing their own wickedness, from feeling the suffering to the same degree that they caused others, and from resisting the purification process.

Darkness

The darkness in the In-Between Space is not an “Outer Darkness” as taught in Christian churches, which usually means, “a total annihilation of the person, body, soul, and spirit, forever separated from God and made as if they had never existed in the first place.” Instead, within that space, the Darkness is present because it is a space within the Womb of God. It is a sacred space, inescapable until the process is finished, and free of unnecessary distractions from the task at hand: a space for the soul to reflect and to repent, a space for healing, for growth, for change, for metamorphosis, for nurture, and for rebirth.

There is a total annihilation, but it is not of the true Self. It is a total annihilation of the false self, and of the evil that had been worked within people’s hearts as they are made new and prepared for a rebirth: cleansed, purified, healed, and made whole and complete within God, within their true Self, as well as within the whole of God’s creation.

The Role of Forgiveness

Forgiveness plays an interesting part, I think, in this whole dynamic.

Forgiveness on earth can benefit both the offender and the one harmed, but since often the offender refuses to admit and repent of their wrongdoing, forgiveness on earth most often benefits only those who have been harmed.

Forgiveness on earth is not the same thing as reconciliation in this life, although sometimes it is a precursor to such. Forgiveness (or reconciliation, for that matter), should never be confused with ignoring, excusing, or enabling, but it is a process whereby we can work through and let go of what is hurting us and causing our suffering. Sometimes it is a one-time decision, but especially in instances of great or ongoing trauma, forgiveness is a process that comes and goes in cycles until it has been completed. But whether a one-time decision or an ongoing process, it is a decision that begins within the heart of the one who has been done wrong, and it helps us move on from the trauma and to heal.

In this way, we don’t stay connected to the trauma, our suffering ceases, and we can find reconciliation to universal humanity—specifically, to our true Self and to the true Self even of the one who caused our suffering—and back into wholeness and Unity with God.

After the death of the one who caused suffering, however, the forgiveness shown to them by the ones they wronged—the forgiveness that they mocked, ignored, or refused while alive on Earth—works to help them be reconciled with universal humanity and with God. It helps by ending the cycle of suffering, causing them to understand pure Love and the necessity for their repentance as they process and face the consequences of the evil they worked through their hearts. It encourages them to also let go of what and who has hurt them, to allow the Light of Christ to reveal the darkness of their heart, and to allow the Fire of God to purge them and to make them whole.

Without forgiveness, the cycle of trauma cannot be broken, life with its suffering becomes pointless, and Unity with our true Self, with universal humanity, and with God is not completely possible. But it is our decision to make in this life whether or not we are able to forgive, and there is no unfair judgement for choosing to not, or for being unable. If we cannot or will not forgive in this life, we will be shown the path of forgiveness through the healing and understanding we receive from Spirit in the Womb of God after our physical death. It is better to understand these things before our physical death, however; but let each of us be convinced of our own path.

Judgement

As stated before, the period of time these processes take is dependent upon the person themselves.

(And I’m using the word “time” to denote the stretch of space between one event and the next, because the concepts of “time” and “space” don’t have the same meaning in the other dimensions as it does on Earth.)

But after these processes are complete, the person goes into a place of Judgement. I haven’t been shown about the Judgement so I won’t write anything more about it, but I imagine that although the process may be the same, it is a different experience for different individuals. But that’s my thought; I don’t know if that is true.

The Next Steps

After Judgement, the person goes through a period where they are counseled on their next step. The ones counseling them are Angels as well as human Guides.

There there is a period of refreshing.

What happens next is different for different people. I wasn’t shown specifics and I don’t know of all the possibilities, of course, but I was shown that some may incarnate into their next life, wherever or whatever that looks like, whether on this Earth or on another Earth (my Guides say this is true, but it’s possible that I misheard or misunderstood them). Or for others, they may pass into another Heavenly Realm, wherever or whatever that looks like. I don’t know all the possibilities; I was only shown these.

Thoughts about Reincarnation

I grew up not believing in reincarnation, but I don’t necessarily believe the same way I used to about this topic, and I do not find where the Bible declares such a thing to be impossible. In fact, there are a few verses that seem to suggest it to be a possibility. Regardless, I do have a hard time with how most religious groups address the topic of reincarnation, in particular when such beliefs are combined with a hands-off attitude towards those who are suffering. Or, nearly as insufferable, when the attitude expressed is to brag about one’s current or past reincarnations, as if it somehow the sins that one previously failed to atone for causes them to now be more spiritual than others. It’s an odd way to think about karma and reincarnation. If someone has failed to atone for past sins, one would think the attitude would be more humble instead of more proud. The same could also be said if one claims to have atoned for past sins but has reincarnated to help others: the attitude should be more of humility than of pride.

The displays of imagined superior spirituality puzzle me, but I’m reminded that each of us should be the judge of our own heart.

Regardless, based upon the understanding I have been able to perceive from my Guides, reincarnation is not necessarily only for reasons explained by most religious groups, particularly when they say it is to atone for to one’s past evil deeds, a process also known as karma. I have not been told how common or uncommon reincarnation for this reason actually is, but not every person reincarnates to Earth, and of those who do, while their reincarnation may be related to their past misdeeds, it is not always so they can atone for those past mistakes or evil. The atonement process is usually completed in Hell after physical death.

It is possible, however, that some individuals who are particularly resistant to God’s Refining Fire (and none of us are in the position to prejudge who will or will not be resistant) may be brought back to Earth in order to learn what they refused to be taught. But this is not the case for everyone. For example, there are some individuals whose choice to reincarnate is related to their past misdeeds, but not because they are trying to atone. Perhaps they want to come back to share what they have learned with others; to work good not because they are trying to atone for something they have already atoned for, but because it is in their heart to come back to Earth and work good. Either way, it is not our place to judge another person’s life process, but only our own, and we should not use our unjust and incomplete opinions as an excuse to work our own evil (directly through action or indirectly through inaction) to those around us who are in need.

This is my understanding about reincarnation that comes not only from what my Guides have told me, but also knowing what my own experience has been. Any personal misconceptions I have, or anything I have been told by my Guides but misunderstood or did not hear clearly, will undoubtedly be corrected at the proper time. Each of us should come to our own understanding about this.

Personally speaking, I have no previous reincarnations and I’m not planning on another one. I was born into and wandered through Hell for 30 years, and spent the last 20 crawling out of it, so I currently have no plans to return. But if I do, it won’t be because I am working through someone’s misguided concept of karma.

I saw all of these things and an understanding was given to me. Whether that understanding is completely accurate or not, I’m not sure, but my understanding is as accurate as it can be at this point in my life. One thing that was made very clear was this: everything is done through the Spirit of God working through the Guides and other human spirits, Angels, Demons (God-created and self-created), etc, who all help us work through this whole process from the beginning.

And by “the whole process,” I mean:

  • Birth into the physical;
  • specific Life Circumstances, including Trials and Tribulations in the physical whereby the Refining Fire of God can work within all those who receive;
  • Illumination by the Light of Christ for all those who will receive (this can be compared to a spiritual rebirth that ideally takes place while we are in the physical; see John 3, et al);
  • Death of the physical body and of the soul passing into the In-Between Place (Hell; the Darkness of the Womb of God in all Its many forms);
  • the Processing of one’s life, including the healing of all the hurts, and the facing of and the repentance of harmful life choices;
  • the Reunification and Reconciliation with God and with the whole of God’s Creation: our true Self, the true Self of others, universal humanity, and the rest of God’s creation (or, as stated before, Reincarnation for some in order to learn what was stubbornly refused);
  • the Judgement and the Rebirth that eventually takes place for those who had not been born again while in the physical;
  • the Counsel and the decision-making process;
  • the Refreshing;
  • and Transitioning, whatever that looks like for the individual: whether back on Earth, into another Place, the passing into a Higher Realm, or something else.

This is the entire process that Spirit, through the work of our Guides and the Angels—and even the Demons, too—help us with.

We can’t reach Heaven until we first go through Hell. But Hell is not a place to fear. It just Spirit, walking us Home.

For Further Study

So you can better inform yourself and come to your own conclusions, here are some links I came across a couple of days ago while in the process of writing this blog. Before last week, I didn’t even know there was a such thing called “Universalism,” but I know now that, yes, this more accurately describes what I have been shown and what I have come to believe is true. But each of us should decide for ourselves what we believe. Here are some links with Scripture to help you decide for yourself:

https://tentmaker.org/ — This website has a lot of info and I haven’t gone through much of it, but I leave it here for you in case you find something to help. There is also a forum to peruse, although I haven’t engaged, so I don’t know how active it is.
